Avery Florence

As a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas, I am committed to providing high quality mental health care to my clients. I am an openly queer, transgender and neurodivergent therapist committed to helping those who have been underserved in the mental health field systemically. Throughout my multiple years of practicing, I have found my specialties in seeing neurodivergent folks, queer and trans individuals and those who experience trauma or complex trauma from ages ranging from 12 - 60.

I believe that through our life experiences, we learn to tell ourselves stories about ourselves, the world around us and other people that are intended to serve us in navigating daily life challenges. Unfortunately, these stories don't always serve to help us in our current life. I use a combination of narrative and cognitive therapy approaches to help clients evaluate what stories they are telling themselves and how to change them to write the next, best chapter of their life.

I am a very transparent therapist, as I believe that you are the best person to make informed decisions about your mental health care. Because of this, I will typically start with an introductory session in which you as the client will get to know my therapy style, as well as have a good idea of what to expect going forward. We will identify together a couple of key focus areas to work towards and I will get the chance to hear the story you've learned to tell yourself to get you this far in life.
