Great to meet you!

After 30 years working with Connecticut families in crisis as social worker, I became a therapist because I wanted to offer something different: a private space to work through what those experiences leave behind. I am Barbara, an LCSW, and I work with adults, children, adolescents, and families navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, relationship difficulties, and grief. I believe everyone has the ability to make change in their life. My job is to help you figure out what that looks like for you.

My approach to therapy

My greatest strengths come from the many years of experience gained while working with individuals who were in the midst of a major life transitions, significant loss, and crisis. As well, my experiences working with individuals and families from all different socio economic, racial and cultural backgrounds have strengthened my belief in the importance of treating everyone with respect & understanding. I believe that it's important to acknowledge and work with an individual where they are at and I strongly believe everyone is capable of change. It takes courage to recognize something isn't working in your life, My hope is to build a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship with you, so that you feel empowered by gaining insight and self-awareness, while working towards the changes you have identified.

What you can expect from me

Our first sessions are about understanding what brought you to therapy and what you want to change. We'll explore your history, identify what has helped before, and what has not. From there, we'll build a treatment plan together. Sessions are direct and collaborative. I will ask you questions, offer observations, and help you connect what you are feeling now to patterns in your life. My clients often leave the first few sessions with a clearer picture of what is happening and what they can actually do to address and work towards positive change.
