Great to meet you!

I work with adults to help navigate relationship stress, big and small life transitions, career and school problems, parenting frustrations, age- and health-related challenges, trauma, neurodivergency issues, and more. I'm really glad you stopped by.

Many of us fall into the category of the "worried well," meaning we may function relatively OK in the world but get bogged down or even frozen by life stressors. That's when depression and anxiety can rear their ugly heads and really complicate things. Talking with a therapist can help.

As a therapist at the U.S. Army and the Veterans Health Administration for the last 15 years, I helped military members reach their mental health goals. Whether it was combat stress from Iraq or relationship troubles at home, my goal was to provide a space for soldiers to share their stories. Today in my private practice, I'm honored to put that experience to work with you. I invite you to reach out by email or phone for a free consultation and to schedule an initial appointment.

More about your therapist: Barry holds a BA Degree in English and a Master of Social Work degree, both from the University of Missouri-Columbia. When he's not doing therapy things, you can find him watching Star Trek, following Mizzou sports, or hanging out with his wife (and fellow therapist) Jill and their kindergartner son. He is the author of "Just Standing Here," available on Amazon.

My approach to therapy

I offer evidence-based approaches and cognitive behavioral therapy along with traditional talk therapy, all supported by a deep person-centered framework.

What you can expect from me

During our initial meeting, we'll dive into here-and-now issues (what brings you to counseling today?) and begin to explore a few themes & patterns that have led you down your unique path. Then we'll brainstorm some strategies that can help. As we do this, I promise that your voice will always be the most important one in the room.
