Great to meet you!

I've spent much of my career helping people understand themselves, navigate life's challenges, and recognize opportunities for growth, even during difficult times. Before transitioning into psychotherapy, I spent 32 years as a middle school teacher and counselor, an experience that shaped my understanding of people, relationships, and the many ways life can challenge us. I've been licensed as a therapist since 1999 and primarily work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I know that being capable, accomplished, or accustomed to caring for others doesn't mean you have to have everything figured out. I bring a calm, down-to-earth perspective to therapy, along with warmth, honesty, and an appreciation for the complexities of being human. I believe that understanding ourselves more deeply can open the door to meaningful change, and I enjoy helping people discover possibilities they may not have recognized before.

My approach to therapy

I believe our thoughts and emotions are closely connected, and learning to understand that relationships can change how we experience ourselves and the world around us. My approach is collaborative, practical, and focused on helping you recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and experiential techniques to help you explore your emotions, challenge unhelpful thinking, and develop healthier ways of responding to life's difficulties. I also believe perspective matters. Sometimes growth begins when we're able to look at a familiar situation in a different way. Together, we'll explore what's happening beneath the surface, build on the strengths you already have, and identify changes that align with your needs and goals. I approach this work with compassion, curiosity, and the understanding that meaningful progress looks different for everyone.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is an opportunity for me to learn about you as a whole person, not just the challenges that brought you to therapy. We'll talk about your background, family experiences, current stressors, and the concerns you'd most like to address. I'll also want to understand what's been working in your life, where you're feeling stuck, and what you hope might be different moving forward. You can expect a thoughtful, collaborative conversation where there's room to ask questions, reflect, and begin making sense of what you're experiencing. We don't have to solve everything in one session. My goal is for us to begin building an understanding of your needs and identifying a direction for our work together.
