Great to meet you!

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas and more than a decade of experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families.

I especially enjoy working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, or questions about identity, direction, meaning, and purpose. I also enjoy working with people who may be doing well in many areas of their lives but recognize that something still doesn’t feel quite right.

I believe people are often more capable and resilient than they realize. I see therapy as an opportunity to better understand yourself, work through what may be keeping you stuck, and develop greater confidence and freedom in how you respond to the circumstances of your life.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, curious, and appropriately challenging. I want therapy to be a place where you can speak honestly and feel understood, but I also believe good therapy sometimes means being willing to look at things that are uncomfortable or question patterns that are no longer working.

I don’t believe our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and physical experiences exist independently of one another. The ways we respond to life usually make sense when we understand where they came from and what purpose they have served. Rather than simply labeling a thought, feeling, or behavior as a problem, I’m interested in understanding what it may be telling us and whether it is still serving you today.

Understanding yourself is important, but insight alone doesn’t always create change. We’ll also look at what matters to you, where you have choices, what may be getting in the way of those choices, and what would help you move forward. My role isn’t to tell you how you should live your life. It’s to help you understand your experience more fully and become increasingly confident in navigating it yourself.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is primarily about getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. I’ll want to hear what has been happening, why you decided to reach out now, how it is affecting your life, and what you hope will be different as a result of therapy.

I’ll ask some questions about your current life, health, previous experiences with therapy, and safety so that I can make sure I understand your needs and that I’m providing the right kind of support. But you don’t need to arrive with your story perfectly organized or know exactly what you want to work on. Figuring that out can be part of the process.

By the end of our first few conversations, my goal is for us to have a shared understanding of what you’re experiencing, what you want from therapy, and where it makes sense for us to begin. I’ll bring my perspective and ask questions, but I also want you to correct me when something doesn’t fit. Therapy works best when we’re developing that understanding together.
