Great to meet you!

My path as a clinical mental health counselor spans over 23 years, during which I’ve had the distinct opportunity to guide adults, teenagers, and families across two different cultures—first in Chile and now for nearly a decade in the United States. I am Berta Rodriguez-Diaz, and at Healing Canyon Counseling, my practice focuses closely on helping people heal from relationship issues, complex family trauma, and the long-standing impacts of domestic violence. I view it as an immense privilege to partner with my clients as they reclaim their internal peace, guiding them toward a place where symptoms lift and life begins to feel manageable again.

Because I provide services in both English and Spanish, cultural nuance and deep inclusivity are built right into the fabric of my practice. Whether we sit together in person on what I like to call "the world's softest sofa" in our Lehi or Tooele offices, or connect via secure telehealth, my primary goal is for you to feel entirely in the driver's seat of your own recovery. I want my clients to experience a profound sense of emotional agency and complete validation during our time together, trusting that they have an experienced, steady ally who respects their background. Outside of session, I dedicate time to my own mental clarity and balance, ensuring I can show up completely present to support you in getting your life back.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic style is highly conversational and deeply personalized, treating you as a whole person rather than a diagnosis. I heavily integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to map out how your thought processes interact with your emotional reality, while utilizing EMDR to safely step into and process heavy traumatic memories. I also incorporate creative, expressive elements like art and play therapy when working with families and younger clients, as well as the structured communication tools of the Gottman Method for couples. My hope is that by working together, you will experience a tangible shift in perspective that empowers you to push back against destructive thoughts and make lasting, healthy adjustments to your daily experience.

We will focus on the unique relationship and family dynamics that may be driving your current distress. By matching evidence-based clinical structures with a trauma-informed, multicultural lens, I ensure our sessions balance deep emotional processing with real-time coping mechanisms. Most of my clients observe a gradual lifting of their most heavy symptoms within the very first month, allowing us to collaboratively build a solid foundation for sustainable, long-term well-being.

What you can expect from me

Our first meeting is designed to give you a soft place to land, far away from the pressures and chaotic demands of daily life. We will focus entirely on your immediate comfort and use this hour to gently explore the specific emotional concerns, relationship stress, or histories of trauma that led you to reach out for professional support. Because I believe therapy should feel completely non-threatening, we will move through your story at a pace that is dictated entirely by you.

In our first sessions, we'll explore questions like: What would healing or progress look like for you? What is bothering you the most? What changes would you hope to see in your life? These conversations help guide our work together and ensure therapy is focused on what matters most to you. You can expect to leave this initial conversation with a lighter spirit, a feeling of mutual trust, and a clear, cooperative plan designed to help you step back into a life of purpose.
