Great to meet you!

I'm Beth Yurman, a licensed psychologist based in Park Slope, Brooklyn with 17 years of experience working with teens and adults navigating anxiety, depression, autism, and the complicated feelings that come with being a person in the world. My practice has a particular focus on adults who are neurodivergent — especially those who received an autism or ADHD diagnosis later in life, or who've spent years wondering why they experience the world so differently than those around them. I've also spent a significant part of my career as a school psychologist, including policy-level work with the Connecticut Department of Education on autism in schools — which means I bring a depth of understanding to this space that goes beyond the clinical. My practice is neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and LGBTQ+ affirming. If you've felt misread, overwhelmed, or simply unseen by providers in the past, you're in good company here. I see clients in person in Brooklyn and via telehealth throughout New York State.

My approach to therapy

I bring a lot of tools to the table — CBT, ACT, mindfulness-based approaches, motivational interviewing — but my approach isn't driven by a single method. It's driven by you. I work collaboratively and directly. I'm not the type of therapist who sits in silence waiting for breakthroughs. I'll ask questions, reflect things back, challenge you gently when something doesn't add up, and celebrate what's genuinely working. I think good therapy is evidence-based AND deeply human — rigorous without being robotic. For neurodivergent clients especially, I meet you where you actually are. That might mean shorter or longer sessions depending on your energy and needs, working through sensory or social fatigue together, or simply having a space where you don't have to explain the basics of how your brain works before we get to the real work. My goal is to help you build skills that actually stick — not just insight, but real tools you can use when things get hard.

What you can expect from me

The first session is mostly a conversation — I want to understand what's bringing you in, what you've tried before (and what hasn't worked), and what you're hoping to feel differently about down the road. I'll ask about your history, your current life, and what a good outcome looks like to you. There's no pressure to share everything at once. Some people come in with a clear sense of what they need; others come in knowing only that something needs to change. Both are completely fine starting points. By the end of our first session, you should have a clearer sense of whether working together feels right — and I'll share my initial impressions and what a realistic path forward might look like. I believe strongly in transparency: therapy works best when we're both on the same page about where we're headed and why. If you have questions before booking, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation — it's a low-stakes way to get a feel for things before committing to a full session.
