Great to meet you!

Hi! My name is Bobby (Robert), and I’m a licensed mental health counselor in New York. I work with adults navigating depression/anxiety, relationships, identity, grief, trauma, and major life transitions. I have particular experience working with LGBTQIA+ clients and the often complicated questions of belonging, intimacy, family, sexuality, and self-acceptance.

My approach is primarily psychodynamic, with CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and other practical tools woven in when they’re useful. I’m warm, curious, and at times humorous, but I’m also willing to be direct and help you look at what may be harder to see on your own.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked professionally as an actor. That background still very much shapes how I think about the stories we inherit, the many roles we learn to play, and what happens when those roles stop fitting.

Therapy with me isn’t about becoming a different person. It’s about understanding yourself more deeply so you can live with more choice and connection.

My approach to therapy

I see therapy as a collaborative process where we slow things down, get curious about what’s underneath the surface, and notice the patterns that may be shaping your choices, relationships, and emotional life.

At times, we may explore the past. At others, we’ll focus on what’s happening right now and use practical tools to help you respond differently. I’ll bring warmth, honesty, humor when it fits, and a willingness to gently challenge you when something deserves a closer look.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what’s been feeling difficult, and what you hope might change. I’ll ask questions, but there’s no pressure to tell your whole story at once. We’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable as we begin to identify the patterns, concerns, and goals we may want to explore together.
