Great to meet you!

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has many years of experience with a variety of clients. I've also worked as a Mediator and as a Human Services Agency social worker. I'm interested in assisting clients on their own journeys and have worked extensively with issues of trauma, depression, anxiety, the LGBTQ population, relationships, and life transitions. I work collaboratively with clients, and firmly believe that clients are the experts on their own lived experience.

My approach to therapy

I am by nature non-judgmental. I start where the client wants to start, and go at the pace that is comfortable for them. I use supportive counseling and reflective discussion, as well as trauma-focused therapy (including EMDR and attachment-focused trauma therapy), mindfulness and relaxation exercises, Interpersonal Neurobiology, some cognitive behavior therapy techniques, acceptance and commitment therapy, problem solving, and goal setting. If a particular approach doesn't seem to be working for a client, I change directions. I occasionally suggest videos, apps, or TED Talks I think a client might find helpful.

What you can expect from me

The first session is typically about getting to know each other and our respective styles of relating. I will want to know what brings you to therapy and whether you have identified goals for the therapy. I'll also want to know whether you've previously engaged in therapy, and if so, what worked for you and what didn't. I will reflect back what I understand you to say and share my thoughts about how we might work together. And finally, I will invite questions about my experience and how I work.
