Great to meet you!

Dr. Brandee Downes is a psychologist, licensed marriage and family therapist, trauma specialist, first responder specialist, and uses modalities such as, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and transpersonal therapy. A military and law enforcement veteran, she brings a rare combination of clinical expertise, leadership, and lived experience to her work. Dr. Downes trains detectives, clinicians, and agencies in trauma-informed practice, mental health integration, and high-stakes decision-making. As founder of Divine Awakening Center, she leads a multidisciplinary team providing mental, spiritual, and physical wellness services. Her work is grounded, ethical, and deeply human, supporting individuals and organizations in healing, resilience, and sustainable wellbeing.

My approach to therapy

I approach therapy as a collaborative, steady, and deeply attuned process that honors both the nervous system and the human spirit. With a background in law enforcement, military service, and advanced trauma modalities, I bring a grounded presence that helps clients feel safe enough to explore the experiences that shaped them. My work integrates EMDR, ART, IFS, and transpersonal frameworks to support healing on cognitive, emotional, somatic, and spiritual levels. I partner with clients to track patterns, build regulation, and reconnect with their inner wisdom, always moving at the pace of their nervous system. Whether we are processing trauma, strengthening relationships, or rebuilding identity after life-altering events, my focus is on creating a space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to reclaim their lives with clarity and intention.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a structured but comfortable experience designed to help us understand your story, your goals, and what support will serve you best. Before we meet, you’ll complete intake forms that cover your history, current concerns, and any safety or medical information needed to guide care. In session, we review these together, clarify what brings you in, and identify the patterns, stressors, or events that are impacting your life. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, offer reflections, and help you articulate what you want to change or strengthen. From there, we begin shaping a treatment plan—collaboratively outlining your goals, the approaches we may use, and the pace that feels right for your nervous system. By the end of the first session, you’ll have a clear sense of direction, what our work will look like, and the next steps in your healing process.
