Dr. Brandy Barnes

Brandy Barnes M.D. is a Board Certified General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. She received all her training at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. As a mom and dedicated psychiatrist, Dr. Barnes is deeply committed to nurturing the mental well-being of the next generation. She is passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness in Black and Brown communities, striving to create a future where mental health is understood, supported, and openly discussed by all. She is also a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is the author of 3 books titled,"Malik has ADHD.", "Elijah has Depression." and "Alexis has Anxiety." The book titled "Malik has ADHD" is also on Audible featuring a Southern twist.

She currently provides mental health services to youth in rural areas outside of Louisiana and in juvenile detention centers across Louisiana.

In addition Dr. Barnes has started Tru Boundaries Psychiatry L.L.C. a mental health practice built on faith, passion, and commitment to providing excellent psychiatric care to children and young adults.

She is also a Louisiana psychiatric Nurse Practitioner supervisor.

She also has a kid AI based Youtube channel titled,"Health for Mini Minds"

She is also a Master Trader Student at Surge U.

Dr. Barnes believes in creating a safe, welcoming environment where children feel heard, valued, and understood—while parents feel supported and empowered. She recognizes that children thrive within families and communities. Care includes partnership with parents, coordination with schools when appropriate, and strategies that strengthen resilience beyond the office visit.

We can have a 15 minute virtual or phone consultation to assess your needs.

Followed by an in person visit for psychiatric evaluation.

Followed by medication management with supportive counseling every 1-3 months either virtually or in person.
