Great to meet you!

Welcome!

Thank you for considering me as your therapist. I am Brenda Melton, PhD, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a background in nursing. I hold several specialty certifications and have experience treating anxiety and depressive disorders, as well as working with individuals struggling with addiction, personality disorders, and the effects of trauma.

One of the most rewarding parts of therapy is experiencing those "aha" moments—when a realization, insight, or new understanding suddenly brings clarity to a complicated life experience. These moments often provide direction, open new possibilities for change, and inspire hope for healing and growth.

My approach to therapy

My approach integrates several evidence-based therapies to meet your individual needs.

Psychodynamic Therapy helps you gain insight into how past experiences continue to influence your current thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors. As you develop greater self-awareness, you will be better equipped to make meaningful and lasting changes that improve your quality of life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. You will learn practical skills for identifying and reframing unhelpful thinking patterns, improving emotional regulation, and developing healthier responses to life's challenges. To help reinforce these skills, I often provide videos, worksheets, and other resources to complete between sessions.

What you can expect from me

Therapy is a collaborative process, beginning with our first session. Before our first session begins, you will complete several assessments. In the first session, we will complete a genogram (family tree). Focus will be on what prompted you to seek therapy and how is it effecting you.

We will develop short and long term goals. My goal is not only to help you gain insight but also to equip you with practical skills you can continue using long after our work together has ended. I look forward to walking alongside you as you pursue healing, growth, and the life you hope to create.
