Great to meet you!

I’m Brendan L. McKenna, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with experience in community health, inpatient psychiatry, and integrated primary care. I work with adolescents and adults across the lifespan, supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, anger management challenges, family or relationship stress, grief, and trauma.

Curiosity and compassion guide my work. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported. I bring a culturally competent, socially conscious perspective to therapy, incorporating anti-racist practices, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and attention to spirituality and mindfulness. I also value humor and humanity, helping clients find light even while navigating life’s difficulties.

My approach to therapy

I take a collaborative, strength-based approach tailored to each client’s needs. My practice draws from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.

Together, we’ll explore how patterns in thoughts, emotions, and relationships may be affecting your well-being, while building practical tools to manage stress, regulate emotions, and improve relationships. I also incorporate systems-informed perspectives to better understand the context of your experiences. Therapy with me balances insight, skill-building, and personal growth at a pace that feels right for you.

What you can expect from me

our first session, we’ll focus on understanding your goals, challenges, and what brought you to therapy. You can expect a supportive and structured environment where your experiences are validated and your needs are prioritized.

We’ll begin exploring key concerns and develop a plan that aligns with your values and life circumstances. Many clients leave their first session feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about the next steps toward meaningful change.
