Great to meet you!

Many people seek therapy because they feel stuck. Anxiety, depression, grief, caregiving responsibilities, or major life changes can make life feel smaller and more difficult than it once was. I have been a licensed psychologist for more than 30 years and offer an opportunity to better understand what is happening, discover new ways of approaching problems, and begin moving forward. My goal is to provide a thoughtful, supportive, and practical approach tailored to your unique circumstances.

Earlier in my career, I worked extensively with individuals living with chronic and severe mental illness in hospitals, crisis services, and community mental health settings. Today, my online practice focuses primarily on adults experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, loss, caregiving challenges, and other life transitions. Whether you are facing a long-standing problem or a recent change in your life, I strive to create a safe, respectful environment where you can speak openly without fear of judgment.

My approach to therapy

I think of therapy as a conversation rather than a lecture. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and work with you to better understand patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Sometimes therapy involves learning practical skills to manage anxiety or depression. Other times it involves gaining new perspectives, processing difficult experiences, or recognizing strengths you may not realize you already possess. Rather than relying on a single school of therapy, I draw from a range of evidence informed approaches and adapt them to your individual needs. I am happy to work with clients who are taking medication in collaboration with their prescribing clinician -- psychotherapy improves results.

What you can expect from me

If you’re considering therapy but aren’t sure whether we’re a good fit, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. It’s an opportunity for us to discuss what brings you to therapy, what you hope to accomplish, and how we might work together. I’ll answer any questions you have so you can make an informed decision before scheduling your first appointment.

Our first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another in more depth. I’ll ask more questions than I typically do in later sessions so I can better understand your concerns, your history, what has already been helpful, and what you hope to accomplish. Just as importantly, it’s your chance to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you.

As therapy continues, we’ll work together to develop a plan that fits your goals and circumstances. My role is to provide knowledge, experience, and guidance, but lasting change comes from our collaborative work. My hope is that you’ll leave therapy with a better understanding of yourself, greater confidence in your strengths, practical tools for managing life’s challenges, and a renewed sense of direction.
