Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Brittany McLaren, and I'm here to support you and your family as you navigate your mental health journey. My career in social work began with a Masters of Social Work degree from Boston University School of Social Work, specializing in geriatrics, which laid the foundation for my commitment to helping others. I also hold an Advanced Practice Certification in Palliative Care Social Work from California State University Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care, allowing me to specialize in assisting families during some of life's most challenging times.

Over the past decade, I've dedicated my career to working as a clinical social worker, providing tailored support to individuals and families facing serious illnesses, end-of-life decisions, and the profound experiences of grief and bereavement. This work is not just a profession for me; it's a calling. I am passionate about walking alongside my clients during these pivotal moments, offering empathy and expertise to help them feel supported and less alone.

In my practice, I focus on creating a compassionate and understanding environment where clients can openly express their feelings and concerns. My aim is to ensure that every patient and family I work with knows they are not alone and have access to the resources and support they need.

Being a part of your journey is an honor, and I am committed to providing the guidance and care that can make a difference during these difficult times. Together, we can navigate these challenges with understanding and strength.

My approach to therapy

In my role as a social worker, I've come to understand that the heart of effective therapy is connection. I work diligently to create an open and compassionate environment where clients feel genuinely heard and supported. My approach emphasizes empathy, active listening, and collaboration, fostering a trusting relationship from the very start.

When beginning with a new client, I make it a priority to understand their unique experience and perspective. By doing so, I tailor our sessions to meet their specific needs, helping them navigate the complexities of serious illness, end-of-life considerations, and grief.

I believe in empowering clients by equipping them with the tools and strategies they need to face their challenges confidently. My goal is to guide them through their journey with resilience and hope, offering a steady presence and informed support.

Throughout my career, I have worked alongside individuals and families to help them process difficult emotions and circumstances, always aiming to create a safe space where they can explore their experiences openly. By focusing on what truly matters to each client, I strive to make a meaningful, positive impact in their lives.

What you can expect from me

In our first session together, my primary focus is to cultivate a warm and welcoming environment where you feel fully supported and at ease. As we begin, I'll introduce myself and share a bit about my background and approach to therapy, providing a clear picture of what you can expect from our sessions.

This initial meeting is a space for you to share your story and the reasons that brought you to therapy. There's absolutely no pressure, and you're encouraged to share whatever you're comfortable with at your pace. Listening to your experiences helps me understand your unique needs and the best ways I can support you.

Together, we'll explore and define your therapy goals, discussing what you hope to achieve both in the short-term and long-term. It's a collaborative process, ensuring that our work aligns with your personal aspirations and needs.

Building a trusting relationship is a top priority for me. I strive to make our sessions a place where open communication thrives, inviting you to voice any concerns or preferences. We will discuss the confidentiality of our work and set boundaries to create a respectful and safe therapeutic space, ensuring you fully understand your rights and the limits of confidentiality.

Ultimately, this first session is all about setting the stage for the supportive journey ahead. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, understood, and optimistic about the process we will embark on together.
