Great to meet you!

Hello! I'm Brooke Shewmake, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over eight years of experience in social work and mental health services. I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2023.

I specialize in trauma-informed care, PTSD, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship challenges. My professional background includes working with adolescents, adults, survivors of domestic violence and childhood trauma, and individuals navigating difficult life experiences.

While I have extensive experience working with children and teenagers, I am equally passionate about supporting adults, single mothers, and individuals who are working to heal from past trauma, rebuild their confidence, and rediscover their sense of self.

My therapeutic approach is compassionate, supportive, and individualized. I believe healing begins when people feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted without judgment. I strive to create a safe, welcoming environment where clients can process difficult emotions, develop healthier coping strategies, and make meaningful changes in their lives.

I offer both in-person and telehealth counseling services. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling with past experiences, or simply trying to find your way forward, my goal is to walk alongside you as you work toward healing, personal growth, and lasting emotional well-being.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is compassionate, client-centered, and trauma-informed. I believe that every individual has a unique story, and healing begins when you feel safe, heard, understood, and free from judgment.

I incorporate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and strengths-based interventions, to help clients identify unhealthy thought patterns, process difficult emotions, develop effective coping skills, and create meaningful change.

I understand that healing is not always a straightforward journey. Whether you're navigating childhood trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or major life transitions, I believe in meeting you where you are rather than where others expect you to be.

My goal is not simply to help you manage symptoms but to help you understand yourself on a deeper level, recognize your strengths, establish healthy boundaries, and regain a sense of control over your life.

Above all, I believe therapy should be a collaborative experience. I strive to create a genuine therapeutic relationship built on trust, honesty, empathy, and encouragement. You don't have to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. Sometimes, the most important first step is simply having someone willing to listen and walk alongside you.

What you can expect from me

Your first session with me is all about getting to know you, understanding your story, and creating a safe, comfortable space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've experienced trauma, difficult relationships, or situations where you haven't felt understood.

During our first session, we'll discuss what brought you to therapy, the challenges you're currently facing, and what you hope to gain from our time together. I'll ask questions to better understand your experiences, strengths, and goals, but you will never be pressured to share more than you're comfortable with.

My approach is warm, genuine, and conversational. I believe building trust is one of the most important parts of the therapeutic process, and I want you to feel comfortable being yourself without fear of judgment.

You don't need to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin. We'll work together at your pace, one step at a time. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling supported, encouraged, and hopeful about the journey ahead.
