Great to meet you!

As a Licensed Mental Health Professional, I believe that mental health is a priority when addressing your whole health. I have been practicing since 2016 and have worked with people from various backgrounds, with various concerns. I have experience addressing depression, anxiety, trauma, sexual abuse (perpetrators and victims, as well as families of both), addictions, grief and loss, oppositional and defiant behaviors, compulsive disorders, body dysmorphia, and various relational concerns. I work with individuals, as well as families, marriage and/or couples counseling, and the LGBTQ+ community. While working as a mental health clinician, I gained experience working with clients with various mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, sleep disorders, impulse-control disorders, gender identity disorders, and disorders usually first diagnosed in childhood. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Asking for help may be uncomfortable, but sometimes life starts outside of the comfort zone. I want you to know this is very brave of you, and I am glad you are here.

My approach to therapy

Many people assume that counseling is only needed when experiencing such things as depression, anxiety, grief, or trauma. While counseling is effective in helping to find emotional and mental stability and health, counseling is also effective in helping people consider how shame, fear, and self-contempt have prevented them from experiencing more fulfillment in life and in relationships. I view the counseling process as forming an alliance with you to collaboratively explore the stories in your life where you have been hurt and where you have hurt others. Counseling offers a safe, supportive, and confidential space to consider how these experiences have defined and shaped your beliefs about yourself and the world. It’s my hope that as we engage the experiences and memories of your life, we will discover ways for you to reimagine how you might relate to yourself and others in a more fulfilling and hopeful way. Due to the nature of some issues, I believe there may be a physical component to your struggles; in such cases, medical consultation will be advised. I believe in open communication, with respect to boundaries and the professional relationship I hope we are to build. I will support you, challenge you, and am always open to feedback.

What you can expect from me

I always have an introductory session to leave it open to discuss what it is that first made you schedule the appointment and any potential goals for your therapy journey. You will hear me say in session, possibly more than once, “Please give me a few sessions to determine if I am good fit. If I am not a good fit for you, let me know. You will not hurt my feelings, because my goal is to ensure you are with the right fit and get the most out of your therapy”. If my assessment or perspective is inaccurate, then tell me. This is a collaborative process, and I want you to know that I want you to challenge yourself and me!
