Dr. Torres is originally from Peru and completed her training in the United States. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and her Doctoral degree from the University of Alabama. Dr. Torres completed her predoctoral internship at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital and her post-doctoral fellowship at the Pain Research and Intervention Center of Excellence (PRICE) in Gainesville, FL. Dr. Torres is also a pain researcher and part-time faculty member at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has published articles focused on pain disparities, pain inequities, and is a co-author of the treatment manual for pain management Learning about Managing My Pain (LAMP). She is active in national organizations and is the founding chair of the Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism SIG at the US. Association for the Study of Pain (USASP).
