Great to meet you!

Hello and thank you for taking a closer look to see if I could be a good fit for you. I am happy to share a little bit about my educational and clinical background with you to help assess if I can be a good fit.

I have my undergraduate and Master of Arts from the University of Iowa with a degree focus in Psychology, Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling. I am an Iowa Hawkeye through and through as I am currently an adjunct lecturer for the University for the class: Psychology of Food and Mood. My clinical background started in community mental health working with individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and diagnoses that impacted various aspects of life: work, family, marriage, finances, etc....I then transitioned to private practice in 2018 and moved to my own practice in 2020. In my current practice I continue to work with clients from diverse backgrounds, ages 18-62, who are experiencing various symptoms and stressors related to depression, anxiety, ADHD, loss, trauma, relationship complexities, work, education, parenting, life adjustments, and navigating family dynamics. I am personally in my mid-life and mom era and find this has driven a clinical interest as well. I value having genuine dialogue and interactions with my clients. I personally find nothing worse than attending therapy with a provider who is going to be stuffy and stone faced during sessions, or one who uses clinical jargon to describe their philosophy. In my sessions you will feel like you are sharing space with a real person, who will have real conversations, and who truly values forming an authentic connection through the good, the bad and the painful.

My approach to therapy

Clinically I will always tell you what I know and what I do not know. My default therapy style is a Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) approach. I have received continuing education in Nutritional Psychology, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to address trauma, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.

I am currently starting training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and hope to complete my training by Spring/Summer 2026.

All of these theories influence my therapeutic style and interventions. I will note that my initial intervention and the one that I find to be the most significant is building a strong relationship with the person I’m working with.

What you can expect from me

First appointments typically differ than subsequent sessions. The initial session provides an opportunity to ask questions, share important developmental history, and to create a roadmap for the therapeutic process. It is important to know where you have been, where you are at currently, and what has/has not worked for you in the past so we can create a helpful path forward. This discovery process can take a session, or even a few, but this type of session allows us to have a baseline to refer to at various points in the therapy process to assess if we need to change priorities and to determine if you feel like helpful progress is being made.
