Great to meet you!

My name is Candace Byars, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. I have 10 years of professional work experience with a variety of issues, including work with children and adolescents, adoption issues, preparing for adoption, depression, PTSD, ADHD, stress and anxiety, first responders, military, domestic violence, abuse and trauma, ASD, and women’s issues.

My approach to therapy

Personally, I believe you are the expert of yourself and your story, while I am here to guide and help you through the difficult parts without judgement and with compassion and understanding. Typically, I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), but I will use additional therapies, theories, modalities, and techniques to help you reach your goals.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, I like to learn more about you, what you are hoping to achieve from therapy, and answer any questions you may have about therapy. Moving forward, I believe in recognizing small changes each person makes, as these grow and develop into big changes one is seeking when requesting therapy.
