Cara Spilsbury LCMHC Clinical Therapist

Cara is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT). Cara earned her M.A. from Lesley University and holds a post-graduate certificate in The Arts and Trauma Treatment from the Kint Institute in New York City.

Cara specializes in working with individuals who identify as neurodivergent and is proudly a neurodiversity-affirming therapist. Cara has particular expertise in supporting neurodivergent females as they navigate their lives after receiving a diagnosis in their late teens or adulthood. She also specializes in helping clients who have experienced complex trauma, attachment trauma and grief/loss.

A bit about my approach to therapy

Cara loves building a therapeutic environment that meets the needs of each unique individual, on a foundation that is collaborative, creative, and trauma-informed. She believes that therapy should be a space where all people feel supported and empowered to explore, play, notice, be curious, be brave, celebrate rest and recovery, practice self-compassion, and show up authentically and unapologetically themselves.

What you can expect from our first session

The primary clinical frameworks, theories and interventions guiding Cara’s work are DBT, Internal Family Systems/Parts Work, EMDR, Polyvagal Theory and the Expressive Arts. Her clinical toolbox also includes CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotional Freedom Technique, and executive functioning support. She loves to explore mind-body connections and somatic symptoms with clients on their path to healing.
