Great to meet you!

My name is Carl, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Sheridan Wyoming. I earned a MS in clinical mental health counseling from Capella University in 2019 and a BA in psychology with concentrations in substance abuse and child psychology from Argosy University in 2016. Since being licensed in 2020, I have also been clinically trained in CPT, CBT-D, CBT-CP, MI, and WET. This education, clinical training, and experience has helped me to foster a strong foundation in treating a wide range of concerns including but not limited to PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Chronic Pain, anger, grief life skills development, and stress management in youth, adolescents, and adults .

My approach to therapy

My main therapeutic approach is what's as the Humanistic/Existential approach. The humanistic side of the approach means that I believe in seeing and treating the whole person. We are far more than just the symptoms that we struggle with or a diagnosis. Treating the whole person helps to bring balance and a sense of satisfaction with life. The existential side of the approach comes with a couple of main tenants. Fist, is that we all have to develop our own sense of meaning and purpose in life, and we have to lead a life that aligns with that purpose. Helping clients to unlock their sense of purpose can very rewarding and lead to a better sense of self. Secondly, it is believed that most things in are a choice. We are free to make choices, and we are not free from the consequences (positive and negative) of our choices. Helping clients to take more power and control in their live by understanding choices and asserting autonomy can be very empowering. Additionally, I lean in to many structured therapies listed above to help treat various conditions listed above.

What you can expect from me

During the first session, you can expect to find a warm environment where you can express yourself freely without the fear of judgment. Getting started in therapy can feel awkward at first as you are trying to open up to a complete stranger. I see the first session as an opportunity to get to know each other, and to start to build trust in the relationship.
