All are welcome! I work the most with individuals and couples that are navigating multiple intersecting identities and mental health concerns. As a trans veteran, I find it easy to connect with members of the LGBTQ and veteran communities. I can help members navigate life and the nuances that come with those identities by drawing on experience, training, and education. Clients often find that not having to explain things that feel basic really makes therapy accessible. This baseline can help the navigation of trauma and PTSD to feel less dark and lonely.
I work through two core lenses Cognitive Therapy and Mindfulness. My focuses are on cultural issues surrounding mental health, e.g., LGBTQIA, Veterans, Autism (Neurodiversity lens) and the intersection of these identities with trauma and different diagnoses or life events.
Therapy isn't just for the broken, and in fact nobody in therapy is "broken". Its about experiencing the richness of life more fully, not flinching from the rough parts as well as relaxing into the soft warm parts. This is not AA, you don't have to reach rock bottom before you reach out!
I primarily focus on Cognitive Therapy and Mindfulness. Sessions take on a structure where we use cognitive therapy with what you bring to a session unless something more structured is indicated. For example active severe PTSD would call for Cognitive Processing Therapy and would be the focus until complete.
Clients can expect in sessions to feel heard and understood and feel that there is a path forward. Clients can expect to take away from sessions a new lens for looking at themselves and their problems and a renewed faith in their capacity to manage whatever arises.
