Carmen Greenhouse

My path to becoming a licensed professional counselor and marriage and family therapist was impacted by my upbringing. I was surrounded by nurturers, caregivers, and people who were invested in the health of others. I have had a passion for the well-being of others since I was a child. Through my passion, I became interested in the helping profession and learning how to help others facilitate growth and change in their lives.

I believe the therapeutic process is a collaborative effort. Clients are the experts of their lives and, from the intake session throughout treatment, they are reminded of this unique fact. I approach therapy with a “take our time” mindset. I understand that therapy can present certain challenges for clients so, throughout the therapeutic process, I promote an environment that facilitates growth, a healthy pace, and increased awareness of unhealthy behavior patterns.

Throughout therapy, I assign homework to help encourage growth and development and challenge any negative thoughts and behaviors that present as barriers to progress. I monitor progress regularly and I believe in helping clients identify changes they are implementing between sessions. I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients over the past decade; however, I have worked more with women and couples within the past year.
