Introduction

Life is hard. Growing up as a neurodivergent, queer person wasn't the easiest process for me; but, along the way, I found people who were willing to selflessly advocate for me while navigating me through very difficult life transitions. During my adolescence and young adult years, the most valuable player I had in my corner was my psychotherapist. Her empathy and compassion were (and still are) inspirational to me and helped me formulate my primary life goal: to make a positive difference in people's lives. This is what I aim to achieve by providing the best care possible to each person who approaches me for treatment. My experience with being "on both sides of the couch" has given me a unique perspective, which heavily influences my person-centered practice.

Background

I've been a licensed, practicing behavioral health (BH) clinician since 2011, when I earned my Master's of Social Work (MSW) degree and passed my first licensing exam. I earned my LCSW in January 2015.

Experience

Creedmoor Addiction Treatment Center - Inpatient social work intern.

Long Island University - Counseling center psychotherapy intern.

Mental Health Association of Nassau County - BH advisor for adult day program.

Counseling Services of EDNY - Outpatient staff psychotherapist for treatment court clients with co-occurring disorders.

Pederson-Krag Center - Outpatient psychotherapist for children, adolescents, and adults.

South Shore Association for Independent Living - Community-based care manager and psychotherapist for adults with severe BH conditions.

South Shore Association for Independent Living - Project manager/supervisor of community-based housing program for individuals with persistent BH conditions.

Creedmoor Psychiatric Center - Inpatient social worker on long-term adult unit.

I also have experience coordinating with other providers and insurance companies to streamline access to care.

A bit about my approach to therapy

I have worked with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I'm a pragmatic clinician skilled in evaluating and assessing behavioral health conditions across the lifespan. My specialties include suicide prevention, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoeducation. My approach is dynamic and individualized for each person I serve.

In January 2025, I co-founded a private practice (Northern Lights Behavioral Health, LLC) with my life partner, Michael Diaz, LSW. We each have more than a decade of social work experience across multiple settings, including outpatient clinics, inpatient units, substance use facilities, schools, palliative care environments, and hospice. We aim to provide a spectrum of services to meet our community's needs. Together, we hope to make the world a kinder, gentler place and help others find their joy when hope seems lost.

What you can expect from our first session

I will meet you wherever you are, literally! Free consultations, home visits (concierge service charge may apply), & telehealth options make accessing care easier than ever. I believe in the power of community, so I also provide referrals to other helpful resources as needed. Please don't hesitate to reach out for any additional information!
