Carolyn Evans

My background includes 23 years working in school settings, teaching, working with families in Special Education, Community Outreach and Child Welfare. I work frequently with adults and teens around early life trauma. We explore your story with non judgement, care and even humor. I have provided Mental health support for programs in the Philippines, Mexico, Guatemala, Tanzania, Uganda throughout my career. These experiences have helped enrich my understanding of many diverse perspectives.

My approach is help clients understand the dynamics of their situation. Many feelings are reactions to the brain’s and nervous system's biological response to a current or past “trigger”- an event that still causes a physiological reaction that you feel unable to “control”. It helps tremendously to explore some basic “brain science” that are underlying your situation. Then, we work towards behavioral and environmental changes that reduce the trigger "load" that causes unpleasant feelings.

First steps in the process is to begin working towards a vision. My role is to recognize strengths and talents and reflect back where you have already had success and/or made growth. My role is to encourage your own intuitive self to determine the best life for yourself. We will work on recognizing barriers. The more you take initiative with strategies, questions and practice, the faster the change. However, as awareness deepens, your desires may shift, Everyone moves at their own pace.
