Great to meet you!

I have been a licensed psychologist for over 20 years and worked in community mental health for many years before that. I enjoy helping people make deep, lasting changes that lead to feeling more resilient, happier, and better about themselves. I have training in long-term psychotherapy and treatment of addiction, which means I will be there with you through the long-haul if you are looking for long-term work. We will work at your pace whether the work is long- or short-term; the choice will be up to you. I’m an excellent non-judgmental listener and have endless empathy.

My approach to therapy

I specialize in depth/psychodynamic psychotherapy and addiction treatment, which are geared toward changing old patterns of thinking and behavior. I also use solution- focused and cognitive-behavioral interventions as needed. I’m good at helping people understand and modify ineffective personality styles and addictive patterns, and we can work together to change self-defeating styles in relationships, family, or other areas of life. Your path will be unique and we will be partners both in the journey and the methods I use to help. Open communication is important to the process, and I will welcome your input.

What you can expect from me

You can tell me all about yourself and your history in our first session. I will listen, ask questions, and provide support. We will clarify your goals and expectations. We will probably spend a few more sessions getting to know one another to help ensure that you feel safe and that I understand you thoroughly. I am a non-directive therapist, meaning we will work with whatever content or issues you bring, but I will be actively engaged with you at every step. You may leave sessions with a mixture of deeper insight/understanding, increased familiarity with your feelings, increased sense of direction, sense of resolve, and new ways to cope with uncomfortable feelings and situations.
