Great to meet you!

Hi, my name is Casey. I am 38 years old and from beautiful Elkins, WV. I am a licensed professional counselor who has practiced for over 10 years in West Virginia. I enjoy working with a wide range of clientele from children, adolescents, adults, groups, and families. I enjoy diversity and variety. I am pretty laid back and open, nonjudgmental, a proponent of diversity and an ally and advocate to the LGBTQ plus community. I enjoy nature, the outdoors, dabbling in the arts, quirky and silly, introverted yet chatty and just very curious and fascinated by people and what makes us tick. My clients tell me that I am easy to talk to, build rapport quickly, make them think, and help them feel safe.

My approach to therapy

I value building safety and trust first and foremost in the therapy relationship. I want to make sure that my clients feel comfortable and are able to voice their needs. I am flexible and like to tailor therapy to my clients' preferences-- research shows that the more therapy is tailored to clients, the better the outcomes. I use DBT and CBT models, emotion focused, strength based, motivational interviewing, expressive and artistic activities, and a variety of other creative and eclectic evidence based techniques. I am not cookie cutter and I do not have an "agenda." I seek to help clients find their unique strengths, their confidence, and their voice, to inspire and empower clients to become their best selves. I seek to help clients build their self esteem, develop their talents and interests, to motivate and encourage, find meaning and connection, and to most importantly instill hope for the future.

What you can expect from me

For the first session, clients can expect a semi-structured session focused on building rapport, discussing needs and expectations, forming a plan to best suit their needs, and to begin setting goals for therapy. This may involve assessment from the therapist for diagnostic purposes and questions about the client's personal history and background. The better we are able to get to know our client, the better we will be able to help. However, I do respect boundaries and am not pushy about about gathering information. I will follow the client's lead on when and how much they want to share.
