Great to meet you!

I'm Charis Allen, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois, offering a warm, collaborative space where you can feel seen, supported, and understood. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practices while remaining flexible and tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, or patterns you're ready to change, therapy can provide a space to gain clarity, build emotional balance, and deepen your understanding of yourself. Together, we'll explore what's keeping you stuck and identify practical steps toward meaningful change. In our work together, you can expect honesty, compassion, and a supportive environment where growth feels both achievable and sustainable.

My approach to therapy

Building rapport and a therapeutic alliance means creating a trusting, collaborative relationship where you feel safe, understood, and respected. In our work together, this starts with getting to know you—not just what brings you to therapy, but who you are as a person. I aim to show up consistently, listen closely, and meet you without judgment so you can feel comfortable being honest about your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. The therapeutic alliance is something we build together. It includes agreeing on goals, checking in about what’s working or not working in therapy, and adjusting the process so it fits your needs. You’re not expected to “do therapy right”—we figure it out as a team. A strong alliance often becomes the foundation for meaningful change, because it allows us to explore difficult things while still feeling grounded in safety and trust.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know you and what brings you to therapy. There’s no pressure to tell your whole story at once—just what feels most important or relevant right now. I’ll ask some questions about what’s been going on, your current concerns, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. We may also briefly cover personal history, but only as it feels helpful and comfortable for you. You can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental space where we begin to clarify goals and start identifying patterns, strengths, and next steps. Many clients leave the first session with a clearer sense of direction and what working together might look like moving forward. It’s also a time for you to ask questions and get a feel for whether the fit feels right for you.
