Charlie Xiao

I'm a NYU educated and board-certified psych NP trained at NYU Langone Brooklyn, Jamaica and Flushing Hospitals. I'm currently enrolled in the William Alanson White Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy program. My specialty is in child/adolescent psychiatry and I work with adults. I am a parent of a child with serious mental illness, and have 16 years of lived experience in raising my child into an independent, productive and caring young adult. I hope to support you in this journey, too!

I combine traditional psychoanalytic thinking and psychodynamic psychotherapy as well as other therapy schools with evidence-based medication management to achieve desired outcome. I work with the best child and adult therapists to not only strive to resolve your or your loved one's psychiatric symptoms, but also to enable my patients to ultimately have the full capacity to love, work, and maturely depend on each other, with genuine pleasure and contentment.

I do a thourough psychiatric assessment and treatment planning, and I see patients as often as they need, usually in combination of psychotherapy and medication management to achieve treatment goals. I work closely with child therapists combining psychodynamic psychotherapy, play therapy, parent behavioral management training, and trauma informed care. My own therapy styles are psychodynamic in nature, either long or short term, to address underlying personality issues and promote growth.
