Charmaine Taliaferro

Welcome! I'm Charmaine Taliaferro, LCSW-R, a psychotherapist with over 40 years of experience in the mental health field. I'm a retired OMH Chief of Forensic Units for Green Haven and four other correctional facilities; NCB Hospital's Psychiatric Unit; Supervised ACS's Bronx Field Office's Sex Abuse and Hospital Units; Director OCFS's HRC Adolescent Sex Offender Program and the Primary clinician at Brookwood Secure Center's Mental Health Unit. I received my MSW degree from NYU in 1993.

Therapy with me is like talking to a friend who's been through and a witness to people in life crisis events; and feels honored when someone feels safe enough to entrusts their real story to me. I am their crisis tested cautious and curious companion exploring the places they decide to share with me to give context and clarity to painful events and hurtful people in their life to enable change. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but I'm eclectic in my personalized approach to treatment.

My goal for every session is for my clients to express themselves honestly and freely with no fear of shame in telling their story. There will be assessments and assignments as agreed upon, whatever they can handle, as our sessions should not add stress to their already complicated lives. I want them to leave every session feeling supported, understood, and connected to empower themselves to make better choices to improve their life. A good laugh or a smile is an indicator of a good present!
