Chemal Cruz

My name is Chemal (Sha-mall). I have a Latino - Caribbean background and prescribe to the label of islander. Where I’m from they use the term “crazy people” without clear understanding of what it truly means, but as a therapist and person, I believe differences exist beneficially and I try to understand them all. I aspire to be my best everyday inside and outside of therapy. I love nature, basketball, family and exploring the mind. Therapy is not just a career for me, but a passion.

I do not take on every client, because I am aware of my limitations and most focused on what the client needs. Regardless of culture, I engage everyone with respect and a genuine curiosity to understand their past, present and wanted future. My foundation for working with couple's is Gottman therapy, but I'm motivated to utilize anything that I believe is helpful and needed to support the growth of my clients like attachment styles, trauma focused approach, Somatic therapy, CBT, Hypnotherapy and more.

When a person or couple meets with me they can expect my genuine & honest feedback of what progress will look like, tools to improve their situation, and hope for the future that includes me in their support system. I do offer homework that is optional, but proven to create a difference in the results and growth of my clients.
