Great to meet you!

Have you ever felt like you're carrying the weight of everyone else's expectations while quietly struggling to meet your own needs?

Maybe you're exhausted from overthinking, navigating difficult relationships, questioning your worth, or trying to hold everything together while feeling overwhelmed inside.

You don't have to figure it all out alone.

My name is Cherchaela Spellen, LCSW, and I am a licensed clinical social worker dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's challenges with compassion, authenticity, and evidence-based care. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive environment where clients feel empowered to explore their experiences, heal from past wounds, and move toward meaningful growth. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey, and I am honored to walk alongside my clients as they pursue healing, resilience, and lasting change.

I earned my Master of Social Work from Boston College, a Master of Divinity from Oral Roberts University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of the Virgin Islands. My diverse educational background allows me to approach therapy holistically, recognizing the connection between emotional, physical, relational, cultural, and spiritual well-being.

My approach to therapy

My work is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Attachment Theory. I help clients examine how past experiences and relationships may be influencing their current emotional responses, self-perception, and connection with others. Through this process, clients gain greater self-awareness, develop healthier coping strategies, and build stronger, more fulfilling relationships.

I practice from a strength-based, trauma-informed, and humanistic perspective, believing that every person possesses resilience and the capacity for growth. Whether a client is navigating anxiety, relationship concerns, life transitions, grief, trauma, or questions of identity, my goal is to help them reconnect with their strengths, cultivate self-compassion, and create a life that feels more aligned with their values and goals.

At the heart of my work is the belief that healing is not about fixing what is broken, but about understanding ourselves more deeply and reconnecting with the parts of ourselves that may have been buried beneath pain, fear, or survival.

What you can expect from me

Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes we carry burdens, questions, or emotions that are difficult to make sense of on our own. My role is to provide a space where you can slow down, be curious about your experiences, and explore what is getting in the way of living the life you want.

Clients can expect me to be genuine, present, and engaged. I am not someone who simply nods and listens; I actively participate in the therapeutic process by asking thoughtful questions, offering observations, and helping connect the dots between patterns, experiences, and emotions. At times, our work may involve processing difficult experiences. At other times, it may involve celebrating growth, discovering new perspectives, or learning to relate to yourself with greater kindness.
