Great to meet you!

I'm Cherie Spellman—a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Supervisor, licensed in Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Kansas. I earned my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University and hold a Bachelor's degree in Mental Health from Franciscan University of Steubenville. I’m also a certified Brainspotting Consultant and trained in trauma-informed and body-based approaches: Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy, Gottman methods, Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT), HeartMath, and the Safe & Sound Protocol. Over the years, I've served adults and adolescents—physicians, scientists, clergy, artists, performers, athletes, business leaders, and clinicians—focusing on trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, PTSD, head injuries, emotion regulation, performance enhancement, and recovery from surgery or injury northstarcw.com. I’m passionate about helping people get beneath the surface, build confidence, and cultivate self-worth—and I love integrating movement, rhythm, and drama into therapy to unlock deep, lasting transformation northstarcw.com. Beyond the therapy room, you’ll find me crafting, ballroom dancing, training my two dogs, or diving into a book—always learning, growing, and bringing the fullness of myself into our work together.

A bit about my approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is compassionate, client-centered, and grounded in the belief that healing begins with safety and connection. I integrate Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Polyvagal Theory to support the nervous system and uncover deeper layers of emotional experience. These modalities allow us to work gently and effectively with trauma, anxiety, chronic pain, and emotional dysregulation. I see therapy as a collaborative journey where we explore the parts of you that may be stuck, hurt, or unheard—and help them move toward healing and integration. By attuning to your body's cues and inner system, we create space for lasting change, resilience, and greater self-understanding. My goal is to meet you where you are, honor your pace, and walk alongside you as you build a more empowered and connected sense of self.

What you can expect from our first session

Clients can expect to leave sessions with a deeper understanding of themselves, a greater sense of nervous system regulation, and practical tools for navigating life’s challenges with more confidence and clarity. We’ll work together to identify and heal unresolved wounds, strengthen internal communication, and cultivate a felt sense of safety. My clients often report feeling more connected to their bodies, more compassionate toward themselves, and better equipped to handle stress and relationships. Each session is a space to slow down, tune in, and make meaningful progress—whether that’s gaining insight, releasing stored trauma, or simply experiencing being truly seen and heard.
