Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Cris. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and director of a nonprofit counseling agency in rural Southern Illinois, with nearly 20 years of experience. I help people facing anxiety, trauma, addiction, grief, relationship challenges, and the messy reality of being human.

I’m down-to-earth, honest, and comfortable with life’s hard parts. My clinical training and 20+ years in recovery help me approach people with compassion, humor, and authenticity—no pretending anyone has it all together, including me.

My recovery has also deepened my understanding of spirituality, which I’m happy to incorporate into counseling for clients who want it.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is flexible, relational, and tailored to the individual sitting in front of me. While I work with a wide range of concerns, much of my experience has been with anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, addiction, and relationship issues.

Because no two people are exactly alike, I tend to work from an eclectic, evidence-based approach that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, empowerment-focused interventions, and more traditional talk therapy. My goal is not to force people into a one-size-fits-all approach, but to help them find practical tools, insights, and meaningful change that fit their lives.

What you can expect from me

Your first session with me is a relaxed conversation, not an interrogation. My goal is for you to feel heard, accepted, and safe enough to be honest—knowing you don't have to carry everything alone. We’ll discuss what brings you to therapy and your hopes for the process. I believe therapy works best when we set meaningful, realistic goals together from the start. We’ll cover practical details like confidentiality, session structure, and what to expect. Therapy isn’t about perfection, but honest progress—and growth can feel uncomfortable before it feels better.
