Great to meet you!

I help parents raising children with attachment trauma and serious behavioral challenges better understand what’s happening at home and respond with more clarity and confidence. I’m Christine Salo-Sokolowski, a Licensed Professional Counselor serving Virginia and Wyoming. I work exclusively with parents — not the child — including adoptive, foster, kinship, and biological parents navigating RAD, DSED, ODD, developmental trauma, and trauma-related behaviors. If you’ve been told your child is “just defiant” or given advice that doesn’t fit, you’re not alone.

My approach to therapy

My approach is direct, warm, and practical. I blend attachment theory, nervous system regulation, Positive Discipline, and my own framework, The EVEN Method, to help you understand what’s underneath your child’s behavior and build responses that create more safety at home. Sessions are collaborative and focused on what you can use right away, with honest feedback, real-world scripts, and concrete next steps.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is a working session, not a long history interview. We’ll get clear on what’s happening, where things escalate, and what you’ve already tried so you can leave with insight, language for what you’re living, and at least one thing to try right away. I offer telehealth only in Virginia and Wyoming, and if I’m not the right fit, I’ll help point you in a better direction.
