Great to meet you!

Christopher Barnes is a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C, PMHNP-BC) who provides comprehensive, compassionate mental health care to individuals across the entire lifespan. From adolescents navigating school stress to older adults managing life transitions, Christopher creates a safe, affirming space for all patients, with a deep and explicit commitment to supporting marginalized communities.

Christopher specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide array of conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, grief, and the unique psychological impacts of chronic illness. Driven by a lifelong desire to help others—and informed by his own personal mental health journey and family experiences—he understands firsthand how vital accessible, empathetic care is to a person's well-being.

My approach to therapy

Christopher's therapeutic philosophy is client-centered, holistic, and mindfulness-based. He looks at the whole person, blending physical health expertise with mental health care to treat the root causes of distress, not just the symptoms. In sessions, patients experience a warm, collaborative, and deeply supportive environment that is equally action-oriented, empowering individuals to take practical, mindful steps toward healing.

What you can expect from me

Taking the first step toward mental health support can feel overwhelming, but your initial consultation is designed to be a comfortable, low-pressure conversation. Because this practice is fully telehealth-based, you can join our first session from the comfort and privacy of your own home.

During our initial 60-minute evaluation, we will work together to lay the foundation for your care. Here is what we will focus on:

  • Getting to Know You: First and foremost, this is an opportunity for us to connect. We will establish a safe, confidential, and affirming space where you can feel heard, respected, and understood.
  • Understanding What Prompted Your Appointment: We will discuss what is happening in your life right now. You will have the space to share the current challenges, symptoms, or life transitions that led you to seek care today.
  • Reviewing Your Health History: Because I look at mental health through a holistic, whole-person lens, we will review your background. This includes any past mental health experiences, your medical and physical health history, lifestyle habits, and relevant family history.
  • Setting Your Goals for Treatment: We will collaborate on what healing looks like for you. Whether your goal is managing daily anxiety, finding balance with ADHD, or navigating a difficult grieving process, we will define practical, actionable milestones to guide our work together.

By the end of our first session, we will begin forming a personalized, holistic care plan tailored to your lifestyle. There is no need to have everything figured out before we meet—we will take it one step at a time, together.
