Great to meet you!

Having been a college freshman at age 32, and then becoming a licensed clinical social worker at 37, I've had real life experiences that have prepared me to accompany you on your journey. Having overcome many personal obstacles, I have first hand experience that allows me to truly empathize with others. From 1998-2014, I worked with, and therefore learned a lot about, domestic violence offenders. Additionally, in my early years as a therapist, I worked with children in foster care. About 15 years ago, I began working only with adults, suffering with anxiety, depression, and various other disorders, and now have gained extensive experience with clients suffering with borderline personality disorder.

My approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach is eclectic and depends on the needs of the client. I would describe my style as validating and interactive generally. Mostly I use behavioral strategies for helping clients to regulate emotions and incorporate Internal Family Systems for processing of past events and traumas when appropriate.

What you can expect from me

In our first session together, my strategy is to do what ever would make the client most comfortable. Often clients want to share their stories which have brought them to therapy. If however a client is not comfortable enough to share, I'm happy to guide the session in more of an interview style to help us build rapport. It would be appropriate to begin treatment planning in the first session.
