Great to meet you!

I have 27 years of experience as a professional counselor working with adults, adolescents, couples, and families. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider designation (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).

Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship and marital difficulties, family conflict, parenting, anger management, life transitions, trauma, and adjustment to difficult circumstances. I am also trained in several trauma-focused models of therapy and use those approaches when appropriate.

My goal is to provide experienced, practical, and compassionate care that is tailored to each client. For clients who desire it, I am also comfortable incorporating Christian faith and spiritual values into the counseling process.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is practical, compassionate, straightforward, and collaborative. I believe counseling should provide more than a place to talk; it should help you understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck and develop realistic strategies for meaningful change.

I am actively engaged in the counseling process. I ask questions, offer observations, help clients examine situations from different perspectives, and provide practical tools that can be used between sessions. I frequently draw from cognitive restructuring, psychoeducation, problem-solving, solution-focused approaches, and trauma-informed therapy.

I also believe clients should feel heard, respected, and accepted rather than judged. And when appropriate, I enjoy bringing some humor into the process. Sometimes a little laughter can lower tension, provide perspective, and make difficult work feel more manageable.

What you can expect from me

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what brings you to counseling. I will ask about your current concerns, relevant background, and what you hope will be different as a result of therapy.

My style is conversational and comfortable, so you should not feel as though you are being interviewed or tested. We will begin identifying the most important issues, look for patterns that may be contributing to them, and discuss some initial goals for counseling.

I want you to leave the first session feeling heard and understood, but also with a clearer sense of direction. Whenever possible, I like clients to leave with at least one useful idea, perspective, or practical step they can begin working on right away.
