Great to meet you!

Hello, I'm Dr. Cliff Johnson. My primary focus is working with high school students, while also supporting older middle school students, especially 8th graders, as well as college students and young professionals.

I work with both male and female clients who may be dealing with anxiety, ADHD (attention and focusing concerns), stress, anger, behavior concerns, trauma, academic challenges, low self-esteem, confidence issues, relationship concerns, life transitions, or career uncertainty.

I work with students from many different backgrounds. Some have 504 Plans, IEPs, attention or learning concerns, behavior difficulties, or academic struggles. Others may be earning straight A's but still experience anxiety, social difficulties, emotional challenges, attention concerns, or pressure to succeed.

I also work with students who are taking medication for attention, mood, anxiety, or behavioral concerns, as well as those who are not taking medication but are looking for a clear, practical plan for improvement.

For me, counseling is about helping you "figure it out." I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), along with an eclectic approach tailored to the individual. We may work on coping skills, emotional regulation, behavior, social and communication skills, focus, self-esteem, confidence, and building practical strategies for greater academic, personal, and career success.

My goal is to provide a supportive, conversational space where clients can better understand themselves, build on their strengths, and develop the confidence and skills needed to move forward.

My approach to therapy

My approach is practical, collaborative, and solution-focused. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing along along with other skill-based strategies to help clients understand how their thoughts influence their emotions and behavior. I have a doctorate in counseling psychology and specialize in helping people build stronger coping skills, improve focus and organization, and make confident decisions about school, careers, and life direction.

What you can expect from me

The first session is focused on getting to know you and understanding what is currently happening in your life. We will talk about what brought you to counseling, the challenges you are facing, and what you would like to improve or change.

You can expect a comfortable and supportive conversation where you can speak openly without judgment. I may ask questions about areas such as school, stress, relationships, motivation, focus, and future goals to better understand your situation.

By the end of the session, we will usually begin to identify goals and possible next steps for counseling.
