Great to meet you!

I’m Colin Hollingsworth, a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families navigating trauma, emotional or behavioral challenges, and life experiences that have made it difficult to feel like themselves. My background in Abilene ISD—as a special education behavior teacher and behavior liaison—gave me meaningful experience supporting children and adolescents ages 5–18 from many different backgrounds. I believe you are more than the challenges you are facing, and therapy can help you reconnect with your strengths, understand what has shaped you, and move toward the life you want. Whether you are seeking support for yourself or your child, you do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, curious, and practical. I take time to understand your experiences and the patterns affecting your emotions, behavior, relationships, or sense of self. I use sandtray therapy to help children and adolescents express and explore experiences that may be difficult to put into words. I am also EMDR-trained and can incorporate EMDR when it is clinically appropriate and aligned with your needs and goals. Sessions are not about forcing you to talk before you are ready; they are a place to slow down, make sense of what has happened, and build skills for moving forward. I tailor our work to your age, needs, and goals, involving parents and families when that supports progress.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, we will talk about what brings you in, what has been difficult recently, and what you hope will change. You will not be expected to tell your whole story or arrive with a perfectly defined goal. We will begin identifying the experiences, emotions, and patterns that may be getting in the way, then outline practical next steps for care. Depending on your needs, you may leave with greater clarity about what is happening, a better understanding of your goals, and an initial strategy for coping or healing. Over time, our work can help you manage strong emotions, build confidence, and respond to life with greater choice. Starting therapy can feel uncertain; showing up is enough for a first step.
