Congrats on taking the first step in looking into therapy! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in San Diego, California, with the ability to work virtually with clients all over California. My focus is mainly on kids, teens, and young adults experiencing life changes, stress, or anxiety.
My approach to therapy changes based on each client’s needs; however, I always take a humanistic, strengths-based, and client-centered approach. This means that I focus on each client’s strengths and how to utilize them, and I place a high value on client discovery and self-love. I personally believe the client and therapist relationship is one of the most significant parts of therapy; therefore, I work to build a connection throughout each session. Additionally, I have been trained in play therapy and art therapy techniques and can incorporate them with both kids and adults alike.
In my first session with clients, I like to start by getting to know them and making a client feel at ease. This is usually done through a pre-filled questionnaire or sometimes even a personality quiz (love Myers-Briggs!). By the second session, I would like to go through mutually agreed upon treatment goals. After that, I tailor each session to fit my client's needs. You can expect warmth, humor, fun, validation, and a relaxed setting at every session.
