Great to meet you!

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or exhausted from carrying everything on your own, you don’t have to figure it out alone, and you don’t have to settle for just “getting by.” I am Crystal Walker, LCSW, a Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare graduate with over 13 years of experience helping people move from survival mode to a place of clarity, strength, and real change.

My career has taken me through case management, school social work, the probation and justice systems, and, most recently, inpatient psychiatry. These settings have given me a deep, real-world understanding of trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and substance use, as well as the complex life stressors and systems that can keep people feeling stuck. I don’t just understand these challenges clinically; I understand how they show up in daily life, relationships, work, and self-worth.

My approach to therapy is direct, warm, creative, and solution-oriented. I am honest, affirming, and deeply collaborative. I meet you exactly where you are, without judgment, and help you build practical tools that actually work in your real life. Therapy with me is active and empowering. We focus on insight, emotional healing, and concrete strategies so you can start feeling better, not just talking about feeling better.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and substance use, using evidence-based and strengths-focused approaches including CBT, DBT, EFT, Motivational Interviewing, Positive Psychology, REBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Humanistic, and Strength-Based Therapy.

Clients often tell me they feel truly seen, understood, and supported in our work together. My passion is helping people reconnect with their strength, find clarity, and create a life that feels more balanced, hopeful, and fulfilling, one better day at a time.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is warm, direct, collaborative, and solution-focused. I believe in creating a safe, affirming, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being their authentic selves. I work from a strengths-based perspective, helping clients recognize their resilience while also building practical skills to manage life’s challenges. I integrate evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care to support emotional regulation, insight, and meaningful change. Therapy with me is an active and empowering experience. We work together to set clear goals, develop coping strategies, and create a path forward that feels realistic, supportive, and aligned with your values.

What you can expect from me

In your first session, you can expect a welcoming and supportive conversation focused on getting to know you as a whole person, rather than just your symptoms. We will talk about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, your history, and what you hope to gain from treatment. I will also explain the therapy process, answer any questions you may have, and begin to identify goals and priorities for our work together. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and hopeful, with a sense that you are in a safe space where change, growth, and healing are possible.
