Great to meet you!

Dr. Cynthia Crawford is a licensed professional counselor and registered play therapist supervisor in Summerville, SC. She has devoted much of her life to working with children: as a mother (whose children are now adults), teacher, school psychologist, school counselor, and play therapist.

Dr. Crawford works with individuals across several developmental stages: toddlers (ages 2-3), children (ages 4-9), pre-teens (ages 10-12), teenagers and adolescents (ages 13-22). She sees clients with a range of issues: behavioral difficulties (ex. attention seeking, hyperactivity, difficulty in following directions, anger management, and tantrums) anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, problems making and keeping friends and consequences of trauma.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Crawford selects a therapeutic approach based on the client's age, developmental level, and presenting issue(s). She may choose from several therapeutic approaches, including child-centered play therapy, cognitive-behavioral play therapy, Adlerian play therapy, solution-focused play therapy, narrative therapy, sand tray therapy, expressive arts therapy, and filial therapy in which parent(s) work to build better relationships with their children.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, Dr. Crawford spends time getting to know the child or adolescent client, the parent(s), and the nature of the reason for the request for therapy.
