My approach to therapy

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, the work isn't just about diagnosing and prescribing, it's about helping people regain a sense of control over their lives. Across conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, PTSD, and substance use, the core approach centers on partnership, education, and practical skill-building.

It starts with listening. A thorough assessment looks beyond symptoms to understand someone's history, environment, stressors, strengths, and goals. Treatment plans are individualized rather than one size fits all.

Empowerment comes from making clients active participants in their care. That means explaining what's going on in clear, non-clinical language-how anxiety affects the nervous system, how depression can shift thinking patterns, or how ADHD impacts executive functioning. When people understand the "why" they're better equipped to engage in the "how" of treatment.
