Great to meet you!

Hello, and welcome. My name is Cynthia Oputa, and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered mental health care. I believe that effective treatment begins with truly listening, building trust, and partnering with you to support your mental and emotional well-being.

I have a strong clinical background in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment across the lifespan. My training allows me to integrate both psychotherapy and medication management, and I take a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to care. I believe that combining therapeutic support with appropriate medication—when needed—offers a more holistic and sustainable path to healing.

My areas of interest include the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and stress-related concerns. I work collaboratively with clients to develop individualized treatment plans that respect personal values, goals, and lived experiences. I also encourage education and shared decision-making, empowering clients to feel informed and confident about their care.

Above all, my goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard, supported, and respected. Whether you are seeking help for the first time or continuing your mental health journey, I am committed to walking alongside you with empathy, professionalism, and care.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized. I believe that every person’s experience is unique, and treatment should be tailored to fit your specific needs, goals, and values. I take time to listen carefully, understand your concerns, and build a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel safe, respected, and heard.

I use an evidence-based, holistic approach that integrates psychotherapy and medication management when appropriate. I believe in shared decision-making and encourage clients to be actively involved in their treatment. Education is an important part of my work—I make sure you understand your diagnosis, treatment options, and the benefits and potential risks of medications so you can make informed choices about your care.

My style is supportive, nonjudgmental, and culturally sensitive. I work at your pace and focus on practical strategies that can be applied in everyday life. I also emphasize strengths-based care, helping clients recognize their resilience while developing healthier coping skills.

I have a particular focus on treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and stress-related challenges. Whether you are seeking short-term support or ongoing care, my goal is to help you achieve meaningful, sustainable improvement and greater emotional well-being.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is a time for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation for your care. My goal is to create a calm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing at your own pace. There is no pressure to “have it all figured out” or to talk about everything at once.

During this session, we will review your concerns, symptoms, personal history, and what led you to seek care. I’ll ask questions to better understand your experiences, strengths, and goals, and I’ll also give you time to ask questions about the process, treatment options, or anything else that’s important to you.

Together, we will begin identifying initial goals for treatment and discuss next steps. This may include therapy approaches, medication options (if appropriate), lifestyle or coping strategies, and recommendations for follow-up care. I focus on education and shared decision-making, so you can expect clear explanations and collaborative planning.

By the end of the first session, most clients leave with a clearer understanding of their mental health concerns, a preliminary plan of care, and reassurance that they are not alone in this process. Above all, my priority is that you feel heard, respected, and supported from the very first visit.
