Great to meet you!

Hi, My name is Dallas Smeltser and I am a licensed professional counselor-supervisor. I am here to help provide you with encouragement and support. I've spent over 30 years doing this work — not because it's easy, but because it matters. My clients tend to be people who are dealing with something heavy and real: loss, trauma, depression, substance use, or the kind of slow-burning stress that builds until something breaks. Many of them are men who never saw themselves as 'therapy people,' and I respect that. I don't push, and I don't project. I show up, I listen, and I help you figure out what actually needs to change — and how to change it.

My approach to therapy

My approach is honest and practical. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy, so I draw from a wide range of evidence-based tools — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and others — depending on what you're working through. What stays consistent is the relationship. I believe real change happens when you feel genuinely heard rather than just assessed. I ask direct questions, I offer direct feedback when it's useful, and I trust my clients to know themselves better than I ever could.

What you can expect from me

The first session is a conversation, not an intake form out loud. I'll ask what brought you in, what's been going on, and what you're hoping for — but mostly I want to understand you, not just your symptoms. We won't rush into a treatment plan or homework. You'll leave knowing what I think might be helpful and whether this feels like a fit. If it does, we'll build from there. If you have questions before booking, reach out — I'm happy to talk briefly before your first appointment.
