Great to meet you!

Hi! I'm Danae Knowles. I'm a queer, nonbinary, neurodivergent therapist and I'm so excited to get the chance to be there to support you. I have a masters degree in Professional Counseling and have spent the last 5 years working with various populations of clients. I have a specialty of working with fellow queer and neurodivergent individuals as my particular style and engagement in therapy often suits other people in those categories. I have experience in both community based mental health as well as individual outpatient therapy. I've developed a holistic style that focuses on systemic influences on people, including both internal and external systems. I have experience with trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, family dynamics, and alternative relationships, as well as the usual suspects such as anxiety and depression. I believe that there is a therapist out there for you- if that isn't me, I will encourage you to find the person who will make you feel safe and understood. If I do happen to be that therapist, then I am excited to work with you!

My approach to therapy

I use a conversational and holistic approach in my therapeutic sessions. I focus on creating an environment that feels comfortable and safe while we work to untangle the issues and concerns that bring you to my office. While it isn't for everyone, I use a more casual and friendly approach where we work together on mutually agreed upon topics and issues. I don't find much benefit in avoiding the hard things, so I'll often ask direct questions and provide straighforward insights, but I will also do my best to give that feedback in ways that don't feel critical of you or how you've established yourself in your life.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect to walk away with an understanding of both how the struggles they are dealing with were first developed as well as some ideas and suggestions for how to address those things in the present moment. These things are connected, often in quiet and subtle ways and my goal is to help my clients recognize those connections and feel confident in dealing with them in everyday life.
