Great to meet you!

Is your relationship in trouble and do you need couples counseling? I provide intensive treatment in the time of relational crisis (betrayal, loop arguments that keep replaying, a significant distancing incident) to help increase the possibilities of rekindling love, separating civilly, or taking a break with thoughtful reflection to regroup and decide next directions.

Together we will work towards building on your inner strengths and abilities to engage and live with the deeper meanings of overwhelming everyday tensions. Today we can start the process of rebuilding frayed relationships and move towards rebuilding the love for yourself and others that seems lost and out of grasp.

Hi, I’m Dr. Daniel Sokal, and welcome to my practice! I am a licensed psychotherapist and trained psychoanalyst proudly serving individuals, couples, and business professionals online throughout Westchester County, New York and Connecticut. I reside in Connecticut with my wife, five children, and three dogs.

I graduated with my Master’s in Social Work from Syracuse University and my PhD from ICSW in Chicago. During my time at Syracuse, I was the President of the Delta Gamma Chapter of the Phi Alpha National Honor Society, awarded NASW-CNY Chapter Student Of The Year, recipient of the Amy B. Watkins scholarship, and elected Class Marshall and Convocation Speaker for our graduating class.

I am a Ph.D. graduate at The Institute for Clinical Social Work. My research interests include role reversal, the parent-as-peer dynamic (my coined term), parentification, the other’s experience of a narcissist, and recovery from narcissistic abuse.

My approach to therapy

I work best with those who want to begin the process of change. By change, I mean changing the repetitions in your life for the better, changing the loops of arguments that seem to go nowhere, changing the pre-written script of the comeback in arguments before the other side is heard, and changing the symptoms that stem from being stuck in these patterns.

Together in therapy, we will work towards building on your inner strengths and abilities to engage with the deeper meanings of everyday tensions. We will start the process of rebuilding frayed relationships and your sense of you.

I am results oriented and work in a collaborative partnership with my patients towards relieving the symptoms related to depression, anxiety, and significant family changes including; relationship conflicts, relational distance, infidelity, evaluating divorce and peaceful separation, individual family issues, family of origin conflicts, parent child relationship stressors, cut off, and recovery or interacting with narcissistic pathology.

What you can expect from me

Together in therapy we will work towards rebuilding your confidence while fostering new tools and techniques to help you manage stress, create positive change, and growth.
