Great to meet you!

Hi! My name’s Danielle Atencio; I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, based in San Luis Obispo, California, and also working with clients statewide via Telehealth. I work with adults of all ages and specialize in anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, substance abuse, and life transitions/challenges, using an eclectic blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing Techniques, Mindfulness, and Mindful Self Compassion. I find that my style and approach to therapy is a good fit for individuals who are looking for help in navigating the challenges of life, whether those challenges are internal and/or external.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is eclectic and varied to suit the individual needs of the clients that I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing Techniques, as these modalities help me and the client to build a comprehensive understanding of their reality and allow us to collaborate to determine a way forward. I find that my style and approach to therapy are a good fit for individuals who are looking for help in navigating the challenges of life, whether those challenges are internal and/or external. I work to help my clients successfully manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, ADHD, and addiction, to build skills that help them to feel better about themselves, and about their world in general.

What you can expect from me

What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend time together talking about how you’ve been feeling recently or currently, and for me to ask questions to gain a better understanding of you and your life experiences, as well as those issues and/or symptoms that you are looking to address. The first session is about building a connection and a therapeutic alliance that will form the basis for our working relationship. It’s my intention to provide you with a warm, welcoming environment that you can feel safe and accepted in. My method of approaching goal setting with clients is one of collaboration; it’s my job to work with my clients to determine what they (you) want to achieve in our time together.
